Distant Ship © 1998
One of the places I visited on my trip to Washington was San Juan Island. At Lime Kiln Whale Watching Park we spent most of the day waiting to see whales. They didn't come by while we were there but we did see seals, kayakers, and ships. Also a starfish that must have been as big as my head. It was such a bright purple that at first I thought it was fake or something. My picture of it didn't turn out very well, unfortunately. I dropped my polarizing filter in a tidal pool while trying to take a picture of some hermit crabs fighting. The filter was still good after I cleaned it off. By then the hermit crabs had found something else to do. If there is a dumb mistake to do with a camera, believe me, I've done it.

We visited two Islands in the group, San Juan Island and Orcas Island. Both were incredibly beautiful - I'd love to go back some day. Follow this link to visit a web site with live pictures of the islands.
